Getting started with Unicks.

So I'm doing a CS class, and the teacher is going to be teaching us to use some language called "See Plus Plus" or something like that. I don't think the language should be hard, because I'm already a REALLY good programmer (I've programmed at least 4 websites in "H.T.M.L"), but I'm concerned that the teacher wants me to use something called "Unicks". I've used this "windows" OS thing all my life, and now he wants me to use this thing called "Linux" which I guess uses "Unicks". And so, I was wondering, what type of stuff is going to change in my computer when I use it?
