Changing default font in Emacs

As much as I like Emacs, I find that the default font, courier, strains my eyes. Can someone tell me how to change the default font so I don't have to change it every time I open it up?

You're on Linux, right?

If you are using XEmacs, you can set the font under "Options->Font..." - this is probably the same in the non-X version, but I can't say, as I have only XEmacs on my machine here at the office.
