New Knight Rider?

I watched the new pilot for a possible new series of Knight Rider. It looks very good. So far all the fanboys can say is it's not a Trans Am. Seriously they don't even make that car anymore so I think the fanboys are more concerned with the fact that their fav car isn't produced anymore than the new KITT being a Mustang.

I, for one, think the new Mustang in the show rocks and even though I'm not a Mustang kinda guy I wouldn't mind having the one in the show. It would have been nice if they could have brought the 09 Chevy Camaro out with the show but overall I think the new pilot is very good. Besides Transformers generated enough excitement about the new Camaro and now the car is going into production in 2009.

The new show sports some impressive new special effects and retains some of the flavor of the old show w/o simply re-hashing old tricks. Hopefully this will turn into a series again. If it does I'll sure be watching. It definitely beats introducing yet another stupid reality show. I'm so sick of those.

Anyone else see the new pilot show? Opinions?

whooha! I don't have a TV but darn, I didn't know about this. Cool. I'll try to catch it online somewhere.

I'm a fanboy but doesn't really matter regarding the car, saw a pic of it. Seems alright. The actor seems good too.

I saw it tonight, since that was when it was broadcast here.

I think they actually improved on the original series a bit with this one.
the new "Micheal" being the son of the original.. might be a bit of a stretch, but introducing the original to the son he never knew gives them lots of room for character development.

if it does continue as a series I may watch a few episodes, to see how they are handling it, but it isn't actually likely, since I actually only watch tv while at work.

Knight Rider was one of my favorite shows growing up...
... along with MacGeyver and Airwolf.

Man, they totally gotta remake Airwolf. That helicopter
did it all. ALL OF IT. It even did loops. I was one special
chopper.

Wait. Was this new Knight Rider a new series or a
movie?

Personally I think the new mustang looks like an ass tumor on wheels, just my opinion.

oh, and helicopters can do loops, its just more difficult than in a plane.

Finally watched it today. Some aspects of it were really good, in keeping with the original series. Other aspects were lame.

Warning, the following may contain spoilers.

Good points:
  • KITT's primary goal -- preservation of human life -- was kept, although I never liked that entirely, since I would hope KITT would kill off a bad guy before an innocent person would get killed. Was nice to see them pose that scenario and for KITT to respond.
  • New car actually looked really good when not morphing around.
  • Fight scenes looked good.
  • Cameo, of course.
  • Special effects when KITT takes damage were interesting to watch.
  • Recreating the famous ramp trick was pretty good with a nice twist. Impressive.

Bad aspects:
  • Started out as a soap opera, and a crappy one at that.
  • During action, there's more soap opera talk so they could fill out missing plotlines. Don't we all ask questions about our parents while in the middle of the battlefield?
  • KITT looked ugly when morphing around. Minor detail.
  • The nano technology explanation sounded a little desparate.
  • I was disappointed in KITT's voice in some ways. The original voice, while he appeared to be machine-like, had a human sounding quality to it. William Daniels was absolutely great in this role in the original series. Even with Michael bantering around with the new KITT and trying to sound humorous, it sounded like he was talking to a toaster.
  • KITT being hacked into.... I hate unexplained hackings... yeah yeah, they had the specs, but that doesn't make sense since the encryption wasn't broken.....

Overall, it could be an interesting series if they end up making one and the plans don't end up dying out.

I agreed until I found out that several companies are actually researching this very thing.

Agreed. But I think this bothers us more since we are computer programmers. It probably doesn't even faze the common computer user.

It did look a bit strange. I don't think they will be able to expand on this much since the morph sequence cannot hog that much time. To do a morph correctly would take an extended shot which they probably don't have time for in an hour show. I think this is why they took about 3 shots from different vantage points and focused on key areas of the car. It wasn't very convincing.
