Suggestion

I'm thinking that, for questions that involve programming, but aren't C, C++, C#, or whatever, but, say, HTML, Java, or CGI, or a question that covers multiple programming languages (at least 3).

I know about using the "tech board"; however, I'm suggesting that a board for general programming questions be created. Questions like what codec does this and that or why Windows or Linux is doing X, Y, and/or Z instead of A and B would almost certainly go in the tech board. General programming would relate to programming questions that either fit multiple programming-related boards equally well or a programming language not really related to C (and the like, such as Java, HTML, or PHP). This is what my suggestion is.

Again, like my other suggestion thread, this is only intended to be a suggestion, a 2 importance factor on my 0 to 8 scale.

Generally speaking, you're much better off finding another board which is dedicated to 'foo' if that is what interests you.

We may be a bunch of nice people, but we don't know everything. And we really don't mind if you look for off-subject questions on other boards, it's not a monogamous relationship.

Plus many of your examples are easily answered by just typing something into google.

/me imagines a similar "what about a C board question" being occasionally asked on some far off PHP board.

But C# is only here because of some old popularity contest.

You'll notice that the amount of traffic it gets is way below everything else, because there are far too many other quality C# boards around.

A general programming board has been suggested many times before, and it has been shot down every single time, and I bet it will this time as well. There is a reason this is called "cprogramming.com".

Actually I like C# in general. Although it is not as portable as Java, I think it is much more elegantly done.

Personally, I would suggest a computer science theory board, where we can discuss concepts related to certain algorithms and topics in computer science such as graph theory, languages, parsing, and other things. Lots of times I have a question simply theory related, but not necessarily implemented into code yet...I usually end up putting it here on the GD board.

I've heard the like, but since I don't know any C# I couldn't've justified what I said if someone questioned it. A friend of mine is doing a lot of embedded stuff and he uses C# ... he says it's good for that kind of thing ... in phones? It was news to me and I took his word for it. I said "related siblings" cause of the 'C'.

I contest the gaming board

It's got nothing to do with C, per se.

I like the Comp Sci theory board idea, but I don't know if it'd ever really catch on, given that people will most likely still post their Comp Sci questions in the C/C++ boards.

"Tech" is normally dealing with technical problems such as hardware problems, an OS malfunction, learning how to install an OS if you have never done it before, and other computer tasks like that.

A "Theory" board, like I stated above, would have to do with concepts related to certain algorithms and topics in computer science such as graph theory, languages, parsing, and other things.
