Might I add as my first post since reregistering in the past of the future.... or the future of the past of the future.......... or something with time being displaced incorrectly.......... that I think this situation is not nice and I hope everything works out.

This is interesting, I'll admit. My best guess is that we're looking at CBoard's most recent backup, which looks to have been around the 24th of Jan. (I got 404s yesterday too.)

I believe some people celebrated post counts during the interim period... they'll get to do it again.

Edit: Great title for the thread... This can be our wild speculation area, until when/if we hear what really happened.

I think they might have updated something. When I went on this morning, it stated "Great Success!". It said something about installing CPanel. Don't know why it affected the boards though.

Damn Gamedev is down, too! I hope there wasn't another attack, and it's just an update...

I bet the iranians kidnapped the administrators of the website and made them cover their bodies in hot mustard while praying to the koran and worshipping the mighty persian empire and bashing the arabs...naked.

God I hope that's what happened.

Speculation, eh?

Well, remember the last attack on it? Perhaps that went one step further ... I think I have over 1400 posts too. No point crying over lost posts though. I do agree that this is probably the most recent backup ...

>> Edit: Great title for the thread...
Want the history of the title? It started as a simple '?', but I decided that didn't have enough ... exclaim and fear associated with it. I wanted it to shout out to the public. So I thought about '?!', but that always looked funny to me, so I reversed it. I used that exact thought process, and you too can make great threads if you do the same.

NOOOOOOOOO!!! I just realised we've lost the Tower of Hanoi thread

I think the site needs to backup more often!

EDIT: Ha, it's MacGyver. You had more than 1 post before, right?

Indeed.

I had almost 100 (maybe 80+ or 90+) posts, with an average of about 10+ posts per day, and lost it all so suddenly.

You'd think a programming site would be prepared for this kind of problem, if the attack theory is correct, and even more so if this type of thing occurred in the past. I hope they take care to backup a little more often than every 2 or 3 months.

I'm terribly sorry for your losses. It must be a hard time for you.

>> 2 or 3 months.
I'd say monthly myself. But that might be influenced by a pedantic attitude that college has robed me in having lost a number of reports in my history only to notice a few days before the due date. Bad times. Bad times.

>> I hope they take care to backup a little more often than every 2 or 3 months.
I don't think that would be such a hard problem to solve, really.

I don't know what happened, but it's been very amusing for me reading old PMs that are new again. Cheer up.

Nobody ever sends me PMs. Then again, I haven't exactly been around much recently.

I hope something is worked out. We'll have to see what the guys at the top end up saying happened and what's they're doing about it.

If we don't hear from them soon, we'll have to send out a search party, and perhaps we'll have to become C Coding Minutemen and defend the website ourselves.

Damn. I will celebrate the 1500 again.

Damn. We lost our PM's. Meh. Heh. My last PM is from dwks telling me to say who "I will show you fear in a handful of dust." was written by. Or suggesting really, I guess. So I made a link to it. Has anyone read it?

it

Search party? Eh ... you can go. McG was good at that. Remember the first episode of it? He climbed up a massive massive rock only to defeat an army of people with a tree and a gun? I think he rode a nuke down a valley too or something.

edit:

UWLPA ... doesn't have the ring that my AA gro ... I mean that AA groups have ...

The other good mountain one was the one regarding the Widowmaker just because it's a mountain one and Murdoch comes back yet again and "dies".
