I've told you all, they're all dead. Right now McG and possibly bob are out trying to save them (on the change that one of them is alive). It is somewhat curious that there hasn't been a 'report', though. Maybe they sacrificed their accounts for the good of the board. Perhaps they fell, for us! I feel honoured.

I'd say a lot more. I think my 40 threads a day is a good estimate, and dwks' 56 day guess seems to tie in with similar calculations that I did. 40*56 is 2,000, threads that were lost. Say 3 - 5 replies on average per thread means 6 - 10 thousand posts were lost. That's like a Salem. Wow.

How often to you think this will happen? Will it be an anually thing?

It looks like they did a sort of "system restore" on the board, backed up the information, and reset a few things. As least the baord is active again, which is a good thing. IMHO, I would be lost without Cboard.

Oh, and please let me know if you want the towers of hanio thread back, I have began to code an algorithm. Thanks to twcomers link I solved both the puzzles and spent most of yesterday crying as Cboard was down So I pen/[papered it.

Sometimes I wonder how much either of the admins pay attention to the forums anymore.

We do. Been reading...to be blunt, we're both extremely busy with work. I will speak with Alex this weekend and update you all on what's going on...

well this comes as a bit of irony, since two days ago I made a post about possibly fixing the alignment of how posts are displayed (sometimes the user info columns dont exactly line up). I got an answer to the effect of the "mods are too busy to change the board for something like that"... and now this happens...

I think they rolled back to a previous version of vBulletin. Hence the lack of a multi-quote button!

I saw it Anthony, but to be honest, haven't had time to address it. I've been pulling a 60-70 hour work week for about a month now with no sign of it dropping off...I'll speak to Alex today and we'll see if we can get it fixed back up...and upgrade the vB again...

Maybe you guys should consider having another admin on hand for situations like this.

edit: Possibly one in a different area, like Europe or something like that.

Actually I think my average posts per day was more like 5.8 before the crash, so perhaps it was down for more like 52 days. Whatever. Close enough.

From the google cache:
Code:
Threads: 84,925, Posts: 618,937, Members: 25,950, Active Members: 1,049
Right now:
Code:
Threads: 82,975, Posts: 604,464, Members: 25,054, Active Members: 134
That's over 14,400 posts! (Accounting for this thread etc.) Wow. 900 members too.

I bet this will become known as The Month That Never Was, or more accurately, The Month That Dissappeared or something. The Great Board Crash.

Hooray for google's cache! I get over 4000 results for "site:cboard.cprogramming.com dwks". I'll be saving the latest threads, like codeform and codeform online and towers of hanoi and maxorator's highlighting thread. [/edit] Unfortunately the cache seems to be quite old: http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:...lnk&cd=5&gl=ca [/edit]

[edit] Oh, I missed this. Continue here: What happened

See? The mods aren't dead, twomers. [/edit]

That's why we should have a wiki FAQ ... the possibility to save the really important posts at another place. I would even candidate to do the FAQ moderation and supervision.

Are you going to start that poll again?
