High velocity + bike + wipeout = pain...

...and blood too..

I wrote about being injury prone last year, but this one takes the cake...

I was out mountain biking with a friend from work earlier today. We were having a pretty good go of it - my co-worker is a much better rider than me when it comes to the more hairy stuff, but I thought I was holding my own. Then came the pain. I was going down this steep portion of a trail - and there was a dropoff - not sure why, but I thought to go for it, but I dropped my front wheel too low. Ouch. I flew off the bike and headed face first for a big rock. Its funny how much time you seem to have to think about what you've done when you are flying at high speed toward a hard object. Anyway, I hit the rock with my mouth/nose area. I did not black out, but all I could think was 'Crap! My teeth!' There was blood everywhere. At first I thought I had busted my nose as well, but I soon determined that it was ok. I was trying to call to the other guy while holding my face, but the blood was kind of muffling the sound I think. Ugh.

Anyway, we managed to find our way out of the woods we were riding in (we had been a little confused as to our whereabouts) and found we were quite a distance from our truck. On the slow ride back to where we started, I am guessing more than a few people got quite an eyeful with me, the bloody mess, rolling down the highway.

So if you thought you had a bad day, who knows, maybe this will make you think things went not too bad at all??

edit:: I called my wife at work and told her what happened, and now I am using my psychic powers to predict that I will not be going trail riding again for a while...

edit 2:: My upper lip is so fat now.

I'm wearing a jumper which says 'a bad day on the water is better than a good day in the office', which I guess transcribes to '... is better than falling off a bike'.

Good story though!!

Just my ego

Ah, not rash - she worries about me though. We talked about it over supper and she is not banning me from doing trails, but I will have to be more careful.

>I think you were lucky. How much your speed was?

No idea of my speed. I am thinking it was probably good I was not going faster than I was (To be honest I don't think I was going really really fast like the other guy was).

Well kermit if you would have wrecked in my world, you probably would have failed to collision detect properly with the rock and kept on going. Funny thing about the laws of physics and matter in the real world is that they always work. No bugs.

If you start having troubles breathing go check in at the hospital. I made a dive with my bike last year. Nothing seemed wrong for the first 4 weeks, untill I went to do some heavy work ( lifting things that are quite heavy ). Because of the strain on my chest muscles and an already propably weakened attachment of my lungs to my chest ( due to the fall ) I had a collapsed lung...

And that was like 4 weeks after I fell I think. If I didnt do that work everything might have been just fine, but instead I found myself in hospital for a week and recovering for a year by now. My chest still hurts when I try to lift heavy things, and sometimes my lung that has collapsed still hurts. Even though the doctors say I have a full recovery ... and yes the x-rays show a full recovery with my lung attached fine to this thing pleura or whatever, anyway they can talk... I still feel the pain at times...

So I hope you go for a check up , more can be wrong with one then you might think. Even if you don't feel anything yet, there can be hundred things going wrong inside your body.

Anyway, I hope you recover quick, so you can ride the bike once again .

Heh - I only wish that just for the one time there was a failure in the physics.

@GanglyLamb:

I will keep what you said in mind. It's kind of freaky how you can think you are ok, but have something crop up later. I was talking with this lady yesterday about my accident, and she told me about this doctor she knows who was out inline skating and fell, hitting his head. He came home and thought he was alright, but later that night he startet vomiting. He had a concussion.

Heh, think of the multiworld theory Everything possible happens in that respect, so kermit, I hate to burst your bubble, but in one of those worlds (or in an infinite amount of those worlds, depending on how you view it), you didn't fall off your bike. Best idea ever, the MWT I mean

Before (at about the age of 10ish), I was skating, or I may have been skate boarding, I can't remember much, but I fell and hit my head, and instantly started throwing up. So when this was still happening a couple of hours later my parents brought me to the hospital, and the instant I walked in the door, i was fine, the car smelt ugly, but I was better. Kinda the converse of hitten aliments I guess.
