Truth in this?

http://developers.slashdot.org/artic...tid=98&tid=218

I wouldn't be surprised if it is true, everything else seems to be losing jobs. So can anyone in the industry share their experiences relating to this?

I hate to bump, but I'm way too interested in this to let in sink to the bottom - I'm not in college yet, but I'm looking forward to doing Computer Science/Math or something. :-/

Good programmers will always be in demand. Chances are if that article is true, it was the bottom 16 percentile that was lost (plus maybe a few unlucky ones). This can only be a good thing (hate to say it but its true).

the people that fill out the surveys online saying that they lost their job resently and are out of work are the lazy ass people that are living in their parents basement because they have no motivation or goals and will never make it anywhere in life and it was out of pure luck they had a job in the first place, if you have the will, you can find a job no matter what. "oh i dont want to make the 55min transit to work there" ... "oh i dont want to relocate, because im LAZY" ... "oh they dont have laser printers so i wouldnt want to work THERe"... I find it really rediciculous, I know at least 3 people that stepped out of HIGH SCHOOL!! with the knowledge that they had (being nerds, not a lot, but more than nothing) and now have jobs in the software field (entry level mind you). RUBBISH

That's weird 'cause all I read is good news; at least in local newspapers. And 2 days ago I check the career center website of my school, more job vacancies available than before.

Ah, where's the you are stupid smiley when it's needed?

A) Not wanting to relocate is not being lazy. Relocating can separate you from loved ones. And no job is more important than family, friends, etc...

B) Your friends who have jobs are definately indicative of the software development field as a whole </sarcasm>
