    My experience was similar to MutantJohn's - I was very sporty until I needed to get specs around 13/14 - Rugby,Football,Gymnastics etc - but the one thing you are aware of when you get specs is how vulnerable they are if you engage in the rough n tumble of such things and also the annoyance of broken glasses and being reduced to seeing the world as a big blur.

    So I would theorise that the younger you get glasses the more careful you end up being and just naturally start avoiding situations where your glasses are going to be vulnerable to damage - so you are more likely to pursue more nerdy activities etc.

    About the only thing you get from wearing glasses is the ability to do the dramatic removal. Getting contacts lets you do whatever, like sports, and you won't be judged and socially isolated by your corrective wear. I don't think wearing glasses is really a reason to stop playing sports.

    Well it didn't, I was just less sporty, without the same level of engagement/commitment.Tried contacts, but my eyes were just too sensitive to them.

    Well, I hate glasses. They make people look stupid IMO.
    Excluding some absolute life-threatening or extreme inconvenience scenario, I am never going to wear glasses, and I am currently not doing it.

    I don't know ... I tend to find that strong opinions with no merit or sense make people look more stupid than simply wearing glasses.

    Well, I hate people who mark others for needing corrective/supportive/protective equipment; they make people look stupid.

    Well, I hate glasses and I think they make people look stupid - and that is the reason why I won't wear them.
    But I don't make fun or belittle other people who wear glasses. It is the inside that counts, as they say. It matters not what people wear to me. It is their own prerogative and their own decision.

    About the glasses, I would say do what your doctor say. I think that the trade-off of simply spending more money about your health (in reasonable levels of course, because doctors are humans...and you know humans!!), and the chance of getting your myopia increased or whatever the result that the doctor says to be prevented by this kind of glasses is fair enough for you.

    Do not forget, that your health is everything and I mean EVERYTHING. Well, probably the base for enjoying everything! So, I say a big YES.

    But as noted, you don't "judge people" you just think they look stupid, so that's ok I guess.

    I'm fairly sure I should use glasses, but I cba to actually go to the dr and get a prescription.

    Ok, I'm home now so I can answer this question properly.

    In my kitchen I have 15 glasses:
    6 x 125ml tumblers
    6 x 250ml larger glasses
    2 x 250ml old jars that I now use as glasses

    In my "bar" (well, on top of the fridge) I have 29 glasses:
    4 x tall wine glasses
    6 x cheaper wine glasses
    6 x 375ml beer glasses
    12 x shot glasses
    1 x 1L beer "glass"

    I went through the house and found a glass in my bathroom that has my toothpaste and toothbrush in it

    This gives me a grand total of 45 glasses

    Edit: I just looked in my cupboard. I don't have to count all those herb and spice glasses to I? Can I just call them vials instead?
