    gnu gpl with out copyrigt?

you can use the gnu gplv3 without owning a copyright, correct?
i just looked at getting something copyrighted, and i can not afford it.
the gnu gpl says i have to include (c) "your name" year on everything.
what if i do not have a copyright on it?

    O_o

    This again? Really?

Before anyone takes time to form a meaningful response to this idiot, do yourself a favor and look at his last copyright thread.

I'll even do the leg work for you.

Here:releasing software for free in way that does not fall under gnu/other license?

how am i an idoit? i have a question about using the gnu gpl

in the gpl, it states to put a copyright notice.
what if i do not actually have a copyright registered with the us copyright office?
can i still release it under the gnu gpl?

You automatically gain copyright if you are the author (therefore add a copyright notice), the reason for registering is only to be able to prove it afaik.
