My concern is that I'm not quite geeky enough, but I might check it out. How quickly do they sell out typically?

As an outsider, the most rewarding things to come out of conventions are the panels. Like this one... tons of fun for the mp3 player. Plus, everyone on the panel is always introduced. Visiting one in person would be something I would do if I were going. There's bound to be an interesting panel no matter who you are.

Sly, I thought you meant that you didn't look like a geek. Most people associate the word geek or nerd with a skinny guy with glasses. I mean I box, run 5 K's, dirt bike, paintball, sky dive. I'm pretty sure there are lots of members here on Cboard that are athletes as well or that you couldn't tell were into programming or are techies.
Even if you don't know what's what, who's who or what in the heck your looking at, you will probably enjoy it. Great experience anyway! I think its becoming Ok to be a nerd now anyway. That show, the big bang theory has a lot to do with it IMO.
That looks so awesome whiteflags! I had no idea Joe DiMaggio played Bender on futurama. That's crazy! I am going for the Avatar: The Last Airbender. I freaking love the series. Old and new. Toph Bei Fong is the best!! Kind oof wished they would have continued the series a generation later instead of 2 generations later<sniffle sniffle> I would have loved to seen more of Aang and his gang! they were a whole lot better of a team then Korea and her gang!
Hopefully some DBZ and GT stuff will be there as well!
I don't think anyone associates the word geek with physical appearance alone, if at all. I'm talking purely about interests and knowledge of the subject... and I was talking purely "Comicon" geeky, anyway. That is different than "Otacon" geeky, "E3" geeky, and "CES" geeky, the last two of which I think I fully qualify for in terms of geekiness (Unfortunately, I think they're both press only now). The thing is I don't know a whole lot about comics and sci-fi/fantasy is not my favorite genre, generally. I recognize that Comicon has broadened its image in the past decade and I know a lot of movies and shows that I watch hold panels there, but at the end of the day, I'm not sure my interest in the entirety of the convention is there.
I'll probably get a ticket if I can get some friends that want to go, but otherwise it's not my first choice in conventions. Also, I have zero... perhaps negative interest in cosplay and the last time I tried to meet people from a website to go to a conference they all decided that's what they want to do. So I'm not sure if I'll go, but I wanted to know when they sell out just so I know how much time I have to think about it.

I'm not beat for that dressing up crap either lol I hate the word cosplay too! The whole concept is so dumb! Unless its just the chicks dressed up haha I'm not a pervert I swear. I love to see girls program, talk about electronics or dress up like my favorite characters. Like a princess lea slave costume or melina from mortal Kombat. Ok, I take back me not being a perv.
Comic con has definitely broadened its horizons in the last decade though. It was strictly about comics and it wasn't something you posted on facebook. That's all changed. There aren't many conventions that interest me in our area though. DefCon hacker convention is going down in Nevada or Utah I think.
I'm not into hacking but I find the concept fascinating! I think it would be so much fun! Its way to far though! Hopefully they will bring it to the tristate area soon!
