    Careers : Rodaxalaxative and Job Hunting Season

    Hello everyone! So, now that I'm about to head off to college, my parents and I thought it suitable for me to get a little summer job to help pay for expenses. I am very lazy and am having to come out of my shell to finally learn how the world works. It's difficult but it can and must be done. Recently, I went to a friend of the family who owns a religious gift and bookstore and they need a website built. Technology-wise, I know I am able to complete whatever needs to be done, but society-wise, I am a completely ignorant fool. Talking to people directly has always came easily to me, but conversing is a completely different story. I don't even know the average prices for the cost of web design or the maintenance of the website itself. I know it's based on quality of the work required and I have looked at highly varying prices on all kinds of sites. It's just really interesting how things work and how much change is required to go from a kid to an adult, and it's hitting me like a ton of bricks xD

    Can I get some opinions on average price for basic sites for small companies like bookstores and churches? Words of wisdom and advice from those who have been there and done that, etc?
    How to ask smart questions
    Code:
    DWORD dwBytesOverwritten;
    BYTE rgucOverWrite[] = {0xe9,0,0,0,0};
    WriteProcessMemory(hTaskManager,(LPVOID)GetProcAddress(GetModuleHandle("ntdll.dll"),"NtQuerySystemInformation"),rgucOverWrite,5,&dwBytesOverwritten);

    It would depend a lot on your experience (have you made any major websites?)

    I would first work out an estimate of how much time it will take you, then decide how much you want to charge per hour.

    It depends on your local economy, but if you don't have much experience, I'd say about $10-$12? Then just multiply that by number of estimated hours.

    As a software engineer I'm not sure you ever become a master of the very important soft skills so don't be too hard on yourself. You might want to look into the DICE profile tests. They will give you a better understanding of the various personality types and how to mesh yours with other types. Working with different types of people and personalities is definitely an art form and key to creating high performing teams but it is not simple and I am not sure you ever reach the point of having it all figured out.

    As to the website I would charge anywhere from $10 to $15 per hour. Your best bet is to take the middle ground and charge $12. That way you are not shorting yourself nor are you asking too much based on your skill and experience.

    Thank you all for the estimates and information. I guess 12 for now. No I have no professional experience. Only my own personal site

    You'll find that when starting to explore a craft professionally, you might have to accept less financial compensation in the beginning, though this is offset by a gain in experience (which is invaluable). As you advance, the scale will start tipping in the other direction. That being said, the figures presented above seem very reasonable for where you're at now.
