    Uefi bios...

I had no idea the UEFI bios update was already in effect. I was under the impression that this wouldn't be for another year or so.

So, I have a hard drive with win 7 on it just for my iTouch. Since my Linux box doesn't work with the new itouchs yet.

Anywho, I was prompted by an HP pop up asking me what I wanted to upgrade and what do you know, my bios was one of them. I told it never to upgrade my bios.

Maybe I'm behind since I don't use windows often.

Bad ideas (in this case preventing users from changing UEFI keys) in the name of "OMG! Protect the World!" have a tendency to creep up on one.

Can I ask why you took a photo of your screen when screenshots are but a PrtSc + Paste away?

A real programmer would have taken a picture of a picture of a screen.

If you must know; I took a picture of my screen because I was using windows and have no idea how to take screen shots on Windows. I use Linux religiously! The only reason I use Windows is for loading music onto my iTouch because nix and the new iTouches don't agree yet.

Yes, I could have Googled it but I didn't feel like. Call me lazy, I could care less. If you want to complain some more, don't read my posts or respond to them. Both of you are probably young or immature... probably both judging by your responses.

BTW, I like what you took out of my post. My taking pictures of my desktop rather than UEFI updates.

I mean I had no idea until a few days ago that HP were updating BIOS with UEFI. I figured maybe there are other people in the same boat. That have/had no idea like me. So I figured I would share.

Frankly I'm suprised! I didn't think they were going to push the new UEFI updates through this soon. At least I was given a choice unlike the consumers that will be buying laptops that come with win 8.

I read somewhere that if a distro wants a key for the new uefi, it will cost $99. Which I assume, will cost us in turn. Hopefully, it wont cost to update as well.

    Oookay...

Sorry if you thought my observation was a complaint, it's just a pet peeve of mine, born out of watching too many YouTube videos where people have recorded a screen with a video camera with poor brightness control and are under the curious impression that anything can be seen. No need to exploit the "analogue hole" given better options.

Incidentally, all computer hardware manufactured since about 2009 has UEFI. On 32-bit machines this may be limited to running a BIOS layer, but all 64-bit machines require UEFI.

It's unlikely that HP would go to the trouble of integrating Secure Boot into your (already purchased) machine as this is only a requirement for Windows 8 hardware certification. There's no money in them doing that.

Personally I would also start bashing HP (them clever people what sold off their PC business, then realised that they had no profit center any more), but I'm worried what your reply might be.

Yeah you definitely weren't complaining, I apologize SMurf. I can be a jerk sometimes!
