Probably the forum administrators don't want people to change the contents of thread after answers have been made to it, because answers might lose their context. It this case, a 'Mark thread as solved' could be implemented in the Thread Tools.

I don't know if the forum software can do this or not... but a link at the bottom of the first message, available only to the OP could mark the thread solved and then flip over to remove the mark so the OP can revive the thread if need be.
A "solved" marker should not prevent new posts in a thread... as we see here quite often, discussions tend to continue past the OP getting his answer.
On another vbulletin setup that I post at, there is a "mark threads resolved" link under thread tools. Unfortunately, many newcomers do not use it because they did not know it existed.
Perhaps if it was at the bottom of the message, next to the reply link?Quote:
