If they do, I ask them to find the smallest example that exhibits the problem and send me that. Mostly, they then find the error themselves. "Finding the smallest program that demonstrates the error" is a powerful debugging tool.

    There isn't any. I think ppl have made one or more in the past, but it/they didn't live long.

    If one did exist though, and the regulars were on it, I would probably spend more time than here. But, for most intents and purposes, it's really not necessary considering how active this board is.

    Yeah, we've been through this a few times... it never really takes off. Chat rooms are a terrible medium to help people in programming, anyway. Often the question and solutions are far too long to explain cleanly in a chat room which means both the questioner and those that assist are often required to paste their code to an external site. In addition... chat is temporary where forum is more permanent. If you ask something in a chat room it demands that someone helpful is there at that very moment which is often not the case. However, if you post it in the forum it can sit there as long as it needs to get a reply. It's also there for others to see who might also need the same help long after its been solved. Usually you start to notice how unhelpful a chat room is when people start saying "Well... what you need to do is... you see your variable on line 62... umm... Just post this in the forum and I'll answer it there..."

    The only reason one would start a chat is for friendly, non-programming related discussion... and I've been through that enough times to realize, by now, that we're all just a bunch of boring nerds with far less in common than you'd probably think.

    Honestly I'd rather meet various folks in person, not IRC... I'd love to see how smart everyone REALLY is when they don't have Google/Wikipedia in front of them.
    Code:
    //try
    //{
    	if (a) do { f( b); } while(1);
    	else   do { f(!b); } while(1);
    //}

    IRC is the "Mos Eisley" of the internet
    If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
    If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

    *secretly google: IRC*

    Oh, man, I like, know everything about IRC. A CBoard IRC channel, that would be 1337.
