how important is your college GPA when it comes to getting the job
At burger king ... not very.
At Microsoft... very very.
Unless you have something to mitigate a poor grade --like a "proof of ability" piece or some relevent experience-- I'd expect employers to consider your school grades quite heavily... especially in the technical trades.
The grade will be very important for the first 1-2 jobs. After that, your prior experience will have much higher weight.
For the first few jobs, good grades are necessary but not sufficient. You'll also want to have good hands-on experience working on projects and such.
