Um I did not bring it in to this thread I let it go alredy I even sent a pm to him about it

All I said was what I believed had happen the thread closed because of calling names (see rules underflameing), you can belive what you want.
I'm not trying to bring the aguemtn in here, never did I say he was wrong or that I was right
(I even said I was wrong in getting involved)

As for this everything else I don't see your point, a thread is not a place to crack jokes ONLY, sure jokes can be withing the discussion but when it stops being on topic and nothing but jokes?

I don't feel like that should be allowed, maybe a "general" or joke thread is needed, cause evrey other site I go to thats cheep posting.
English is my first language, I'm just not any good at typing\writing it, I can read and speak it just fine.

OP asks question... discussion ensues... maybe there's a choice straight line in there... OP says thanks... thread is finished... What's wrong with a little humour... Do you ever spend a couple of minutes after a meeting, chatting with the others... or do you bolt straight out the door when the gavel drops?

Heck we already live in a world where homour is a foreign language... do we now have to enforce dead pan seriousness?
C'mon, if you can't read around a well placed bon mot, maybe you should be working on your reading skills instead of C Programming.

We go somewhere else and talk about it as work is work and chatting is chatting, besides I hate staying at a work place any longer then I have to, more so for a meeting :P but since thats not what you mean let me put it some way else, talk about it somewhere else that is not off topic of the thread
And again one or two post I can understand, I'm not saying once the problem is done lock it, but the jokes seem to bbe overboard

I would say that it is fine for a little humour during the meeting too, except that it becomes subjective as to when too much humour turns the meeting into a comedy show versus the sweet spot to make it a fun meeting instead of a boring one. In such cases, a variation of Mario F.'s suggestion makes sense: instead of trying to clean up immediately (recall a recent incident involving me, with the scenario that I had not been mistaken to begin with), using private messaging to ask the participants to get back on track would be better.

Seriously, stop. Let's keep this thread somewhat interesting. No more mutual recursion.

Well, I guess that would come down to what you thought was overboard and whether or not it hampers the usefulness of the thread in any way. My contention would be that it does not, since the comments are at the end of the thread and people are smart enough to stop reading if they do not want to.

As for post counts, no one pays too much attention to that around here; it's not like it makes you a mod or super user or anything.

Heck, bring back the reputation bars! That is always fun for a good debate!

Not really, call me crasy but I guess over cheepness is my thing I hate for no reason
Your right it dose not "hurt" anyone but I still dont think it should be aloowed
    and by that logic the
lalalalalalalal post and the like should be aloowed it dose not hurt anyone.

and what I mean is when there are like 6 more post with nothing but jokes when the original topic was solved 1st post
    thats
three times more joke then topic.

In my entire career --spanning nearly 35 years and 7 different companies-- I have never once seen a meeting end where there's not a few minutes of chit chat and hand shaking afterwards... not once. Why? Because the people in the meeting know each other and here's a chance for a bit of catching up... Really, someone who simply flies out the door after a meeting isn't going to last very long, in most corporations.

Face it... people *like* talking to one and other... it's stupid to try to prevent it.

You've been here less than a week and already you think you're running the place... I've been here just over a year and frankly wouldn't even pretend to be in charge of anything ... Methinks you want to give that some serious consideration!

But since you aren't paying for storage, what does it hurt and why do you care? It's not like it is rampant, and I think it actually helps the forum out. It shows to the visitor that this forum is very much so alive and active with a good community. Have you ever been to a MSDN forum where it is all cut and dry / boring. I know those places aren't very attractive to me for me to spend my time in.

Then why the reference to "cheap posts"? That seems to place value on post counts per person.

Nothing personal in this Lase... But even just a one liner, in the forum, with something like "Hey guys, don't forget about the OP's question" would be totally acceptable in my books... It's the business of bringing down the hammer *while I'm writing code to answer a question* that really gets under my skin... Yes you guys are moderators and I'm glad you're here. I will obey your instructions, even when I feel they are a bit heavy handed... but there's gotta be some middle of the road stuff happening on both fronts...

Grr... must we argue about arguing in this thread? I may have a fancy for C++ template metaprogramming, but this is too much.

You know what? I take out the guys to eat after words and then talk, I am told I will get vert far with this metoid

Face it... people *like* talking to one and other... it's stupid to try to prevent it.
Don't put words in my mouth, I even said that I dont mind SOME jokes but to me it seems to many times it gose to far

You've been here less than a week and already you think you're running the place... I've been here just over a year and frankly wouldn't even pretend to be in charge of anything ... Methinks you want to give that some serious consideration!
I never claimed to run anything, I'm just posting what the rules say
Messages posted solely to increase post counts, SPAM, and pointless one-liner posts are discouraged.
I'm not pretending to e in charge don't put words in my mouth
Now some may say jokes are not pointless, and I'll say it depends on the context

Your turingin this in to an aguemnt that I dont want a part of so I'm not going to repsoned anymore to this

if something eles comes up I will, in till then please dont think I', sayin have no fun at all.

Yes, the TOS does say many things and I believe that the intent of the TOS is being met. There was a time where there were changes to status based on post count, such as being able to edit things and there was a heirarchy around that. However, I believe that has gone the way of the dodo, and hence doesn't really carry to much weight anymore.

These days, the rule mainly applies to "Me too" types of responses. As for the bumping old threads part of that; that is mainly obselete as well due to the auto thread locking that was instituted.

Before someone says it I'm repsonding to this guy to tell him the same thing, I fidn its only A. polite and B. tends to have more chance of them reading it.

But since you aren't paying for storage, what does it hurt and why do you care? It's not like it is rampant, and I think it actually helps the forum out. Because
    A. someon dose pays for it, and even if its not my money i don't want to cost someone more $$ then they need
    B. cheep post are aginst the rules

    C. I agree that forums can be boring SOME joking is aloud but not to the amount that I've seen sometimes
heck I'll joke with you guys evrey now and then, it happens but when it engulfs the thread would it not just be best making a new thread? or take it to VM or PM (if its only two pepole)

Then why the reference to "cheap posts"? That seems to place value on post counts per person.
No, to me cheep posting is wrong not because of the post count but because it dose not add anything, you can be funny and add things
Also again some jokes are fine but after the 8th joke or so form them it starts to really just be nothing but cheep.

And now I shall leave this, we disagre and thats fine, if you make a point that i think is woth talkign about I will be back. but I do want to oint out, I'm not saying "No fun ever" I'm sayign there is a line form jokes to just pointless posting on someones thread.
