    The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan

    So guys...any of you read fantasy novels?
    If so, you might have heard of this badass superawesome fantasy series The Wheel of Time or WoT for short.
    If you haven't read it....I suggest you get to your local library or bookshop get the first the book Eye of the World and read it right now (that's an order!).

    Really, it is just goddamn good, you are missing a lot ha ha . I always wanted to post this but didn't have time.
    Thirteen books made..was supposed to be twelve but got split in two because the 12th book was so big . The final book would be released hopefully next year March happiness( ) sadness( =( =( )

    So get the ebook or something. You have to read it :P

    I am also a fan of the series. I regret never having met Robert Jordan in person, but at least they got him to sign my copy of Towers of Midnight from the grave. Tia mi aven Moridin isainde vadin

If they do, I ask them to find the smallest example that exhibits the problem and send me that. Mostly, they then find the error themselves. "Finding the smallest program that demonstrates the error" is a powerful debugging tool.

    He was already gone before I started reading the series, I regret not knowing of the series before his passing. The guy is a master worker, a master Aes Sedai
    He has a sleek signature doesn't he?
    The grave is no bar to my call :P

    I read a few books back in the 90s. I think 3 books. Meanwhile I shifted interests into Tolkien, Margaret Weis and Fred Saberhagen, which I considered superior storytelling to Jordan's, and eventually out of fantasy novels and into other styles; most notably science fiction (especially hard science fiction), cyberpunk and horror novels (H.P. Lovecraft and Clive Barker mostly). I also developed a fascination for Poe, which basically dominated a large part of my reading on the early 00s. A fascination I still hold. Poe is my most reread author.

    So, when some years ago I noticed a Robert Jordan novel in the bookstand and realized it was a recent new novel to the Wheel of Time, I must confess that impacted negatively on me. I was basically a kid when I read my first book. And here I was an adult looking at a book on that same fantasy world. Over 20 years later, Robert Jordan was still writing for that setting. I shunned the book and the author.

    I understand his books have always been bestsellers (so have Stephen King's and I don't consider him a particularly interesting writer). But that's fine. The thing is I prefer finite settings. closure. I'm pretty sure I would have been bored out of my head, had I read all his books for the past 20 years. Robert Jordan novels would never work for me. I do remember enjoying is first two novels greatly though.

    I own the Wheel of Time series in paperback up until Towers of Midnight (the first written by Brandon Sanderson after Robert Jordan's death), and am biding my time to get the later books. I read the Eye of the World in 1994 (and had to replace it because I was working at the time in a place unfriendly to paper).

    I found some books in the middle of the series a little drawn out and repetitive, but I'm glad I stuck with it.

    Apart from non-fiction books of a more (ahem) geeky nature, I own a fair collection of sci-fi, fantasy, and crime of authors I like. I tend to borrow the first few in a series from my local public library and then buy those series I like. I re-read each series, on average, once every four years or so at present.
    Right 98% of the time, and don't care about the other 3%.

    If I seem grumpy or unhelpful in reply to you, or tell you you need to demonstrate more effort before you can expect help, it is likely you deserve it. Suck it up, Buttercup, and read this, this, and this before posting again.

    @Mario,
    You should go back to it..I agree with you and grumpy there were some parts I felt were drawn or the bickering was just unbearable, but overall it was worth it.
    When Brandon took over, it has really improved, the recent one, Towers of Midnight was just incredibly brilliant. If you don't read the others at least get TGS and ToM

    @grumpy,
    I found WoT by pure chance..looking through the library as I always did after school...grabbed this book with a blue cover..it was called "From the Two Rivers" or so year 2009...Didn't sound interesting at all..but the summary at the back of the book got me reading it. Took it to class, and a classmate pure chance saw the title..said that was"a damn good book". I never get that at all in class. And that piqued my interest. He is right...damn good book it is

    I read a lot of books, mainly fantasy: Robert E. Feist, Terry Books, LoTR (very hard book to reread, couldn't read Hobbit a second time)
    Sci-Fi: Some Star Wars, Doctor Who..nothing too hard, the ones I found were crap..and I'm still looking. There was one I read about Cryogenics. A Doctor freezes her husband that was shot in a shop to keep him alive. Some years later, they attach his head to the body of a criminal..damn good book. Wanted to reread, but I can't find it anymore
    I read anything interesting but nonfiction unless it is programming or some other jargon.
    Never buy a book though. No money ....to buy the WoT books costs $210 on ebay...I nearly died, but thinking about it, I'm not too surprised.

    Anything by Iain M. Banks, esp. the Culture novels, is great (Feersum Enjinn, Excession, Use of Weapons, etc).

    For some reason I find sci-fi a lot more engaging than fantasy.

    I've been reading as much Chuck Palahnuik as possible lately, (very dark rotfl) satire. He and David Foster Wallace I think are the best English language writers of the past generation or so. If you like experimental writing styles, pick up Pygmy, Snuff, or Tell-All. Choke got made into a decent movie that's easy to find. Fight Club, his first book, got made into a movie too but I haven't read or seen it yet.
