    >> AptiQuant stressed that using IE doesn't mean you have low intelligence. "What it really says is that if you have a low IQ then there are high chances that you use Internet Explorer," said AptiQuant CEO Leonard Howard.

Why? Because 52% of the internet population uses Internet Explorer?

Me thinks AptiQuant folks behind this study aren't very bright.

I'm sure on average, people who run Linux have higher IQs than Windows users, too.

But really, while I'm sure that's true, I agree with Spiegelhalter in that those scores seem a bit unrealistic.

Canada has privacy laws about stuff like that...

I don't know why. I don't consider my IQ, which is a test result, and the browser cache, stuff I saved from elsewhere to make pages faster, very private. They're barely even my property. Besides, isn't a survey optional?

It's about gathering identifying information without informing the client...

IQ is personal... but browser information that could be used to locate or persecute someone because of their IQ is private and therefore illegal to gather.

Well, hang on, I'm making a dubious argument actually. The important part of the quote is about storing "web browser data". Well, what's your user agent?

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:5.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/5.0.1

Anonymous "web browser data" right there, and enough to reach the conclusion the report says. So, it's my fault for mentioning the cache in the first place. But if you consider your user agent private, you had the choice to avoid the survey.

I didn't even know about it until the story came out...

That's not the point... If they're gathering IP addresses. Anything that could lead them to my door... they are breeching my right to privacy.

Well I don't see a cause for alarm. There is a remote chance that something personally identifying, like a mac or ip address, is being collected, but I think we're overthinking it. We only have the article to go on and I've already confounded "web browser data" with user agent data because I know more vocabulary than the author.

I would be surprised if every site you ever went to didn't have a log of your IP. I mean you are asking them if you can connect to them. Seems to me that there wouldn't be an expectation of privacy. It is like being mad that your has a license plate.

    Quzah.
Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
