I checked out daniweb a few years ago, and found myself disappointed with the 'expertise' there.
But I don't understand what you're saying about spam. With Adblock Plus installed, I see more adds here than I do at daniweb.
To enjoy the spam, you need a genuine daniweb membership, and an MUA. Unlike Alex A's mail, the "daniweb digest" contains ads.Originally Posted by Yarin

No, the spam is the endless 1-posting driveby posters with signature spam bumping dead threads with "yeah me too".
Also, there is no end of "video conversion s/w", and other merchandising, along with a sprinkling of sex, pharmacy and pyramid schemes.
I used to spend/waste a good half hour per day just reporting the latest crop of violations - few other people seemed interested, or the mods were just overloaded.
That, and 99% of newbies with an actual question failed miserably to use code tags.
Then came the puke-inducing colour scheme and the eye strain, and that's it - I'm done over there.

Looks like I have a grand total of 3 posts there since Aug 2009, I don't recall ever spending much time. It's hard for me to navigate around now because some twit made assumptions about min font sizes in the new design and I get TONS of overlapping text.
They are *very* promotion oriented, I guess this is what happens when you have your priorities a certain way around. Sell, sell, sell.

They have been kicked out by one of the webhosting companies for numerous spam complaints, now they moved to another host and back to their spam tricks.
But the little known secret is they don't even validate email addresses. You can register with any fake email there and you will be able to post right away. This also makes their site notorious for trolls and spam on their forums.

Everyone is entitled to their own point of view and perspective, and I openly welcome both comments and criticisms -- I listen to ALL feedback and then decide what I want to act on in a way that I feel is the best for our community at large. I don't really have a problem with any of the posts that anyone has made in this thread. I see no problem with people participating in multiple forums on the Internet, and sometimes people leave one forum for another. C'est la vie. Overall, we've received a lot of both positive as well as some negative feedback about the design we launched last year, and work has never stopped to continually tweak and improve it over time. Personally, I am very proud of it and I think it functions quite well.
However, I do want to clarify Metrog's post -- We have been with the same hosting company since DaniWeb's inception in 2002. We were never "kicked out" of a webhosting company for spam complaints or any other reason, for that matter.
However, the second part of what Metrog says is true. We used to validate email addresses, but we don't anymore. Now, we simply permaban all members who register with an email address that bounces more than twice in a row.
