    One Sweet Singer - Songwriter

I don't listen to a lot of music these days - if it's not good (whatever it's format might be), I don't like it.

If you haven't heard the amazing Adele sing "Someone Like You" or "Rolling in the Deep", you're in for a real treat.

For the first song, be a gentleman and bring a hanky for your gf. Maybe two. It tugs on your memories, with great strength!

For Rolling, bring along a little blues rhythm. Koko Taylor it's not, but that naked pounding beat is something you don't hear every day, and revenge rarely has sounded better.

    On youTube:

YouTube - Adele - Rolling In The Deep Lyrics (has lyrics, which are sweet)

I don't particularly like Adele, but I will agree that modern music is crap.

    Who do you like?

I prefer singers, singers who can actually *sing* (I know, what a concept, eh?)

I was surprised to hear that Adele is #1 artist in a dozen or more countries, has won a Grammy, and I'd never even heard of her until this week.

On the matter of female singer songwriters:

Loreena McKennitt. It's basically a shameless love affair I have with this beautiful and extremely talented artist for the past 20 years. I don't have any more albums from her, only because I have them all.

Beth Gibbons. After Portishead, I would forever want to hear that voice and the emotion she puts into every single piece she sings.

As for Adele... multiple grammy awards, top positions on pop lists, presences in Brit Awards, TV shows... definitely not my type.

Geez, I'm standing right here. Only joking, it's a parody of House of Pain's Jump Around as a Gaddafi appraisal of the current situation.
    Notice my terrible lack of:
    rhythm
    vocal skills
    diction
shame at unleashing it on the world

I would contribute to the thread actually, but looking through my collection I don't seem to have (m)any songs which have a female lead which aren't just there because someone I like was involved with it. I think Sister Sledge and Tatyana Ali are the best I can offer, and I use best in a pejorative sense.

That "Dante's Prayer" sounds quite beautiful. Loreena's singing style is more like whispering, however. Appropriate for a "prayer", but I have a hard time understanding the lyrics - might have something to do with the huge amount of memory still tied up in BOINC work units, atm.

Certainly the music arrangement and it's execution by orchestra, backup choir, and Loreena, is beautifully stylized and performed.

I'll have to replay it when I get some decent RAM freed up.

Don't worry if it's a male or female singer, just ANYONE that can sing well, and has a good song out there.

These guys have that acapella style down to a "T":

Some of their harmonies are out of this world!

    Sacrilege!

Harper sang "Sexual Healing" -- is nothing sacred anymore?

Harper is good, but his tone wanders around - it's a good singing technique, but it seems unintentional and oddly timed. Leaves me with "Hmmmm - why'd he do that?".

Wonder how long it will be before we find some singers like Gaye, Cook, or Charles? We've got sexy women of every type, even a transvestite with chops. We've got white guys, Jamaican guys, but regular Black guys seem scarce these days.

I look forward to hearing some Slade and Wada tunes. Thanks for the tip.

Haha very true, in modern world unfortunately to sell it either has to be vulgar or immoral ..but some of Harpers' song just leave me humming..the ones that strike me the most Amen Omen and She Likes Diamond on the inside..

Have you heard of Mumford and Sons..I was watching SGU last night, and it just jumped out at me...

YouTube - Mumford And Sons - After The Storm

Unfortunately most of them are obsessed with rap..and nowadays auto tune seems to be the way..sadly.
