Really could use a 'makeover'. Lol.
The design looks like something from the 80s. :x
Good information here though... Just wow.

agreed
The new design should feature text in Times New Roman, sized 12pt, on a white background, with blue links, just to ........ you both right off.
I liked the 80s.
You visited websites in the 80s? That is quite incredible.
Well we didnt have websites but we did have this http://tinyurl.com/2g9mqh
It should all be flash-based with zooming graphics. A little 3D Bjarne Stroustrup caricature should pop up in the corner and ask us if we need help with anything and give us writing suggestions as we type our posts. It should feature a fully integrated web-based C++ compiler and IDE with syntax highlighting and project management.
This is the 21st century people... CBoard should be creating my lunch out of waste particles while I browse the new threads, by now.
Only if his head is on the body of that MS talking paperclip -- "Would you like to use a nifty STL container?" :p
I think the OP was referring to Cprogramming.com and not the forum, since for a fact there is not really any noticeably "more advanced" forum software around than vBulletin. The site, on the other hand, has a lot of good content, but does not look that impressive when you first see it and sometimes has an "incomplete" feel. Also the big square ad centred after the first paragraph of every article is pretty annoying, but life is not free.
As long as it doesn't move to fixed width, tho, I think it is mostly ahead of the game. Perhaps kids these days sometimes think a good webpage should look like a page torn from a magazine (which is due to the influence of paper publications moving on line, usually with a complete lack of intelligent style, but boy, they did a great job of making it look like a page torn from a magazine). Yeck.
I disagree. We need more animated GIFs and marquee text!
In all seriousness, I don't see how one could think this site looks like it's "from the 80's." A very large portion of forums all over the internet use the same software that this site does, and I find it to be very good forum software.
I would agree, the colors could use a little help. But really, I'm not here for the colors, so it doesn't bother me. Not to mention, the lightweightness is kinda' nice since I'm on dial-up.
But it has list of friends and groups! OMG LOLZ!
I like the look. I despise other forums who choose the craziest color themes and make it hard to do what you do most on forums - read.
I see nothing wrong with it. The colors are fine and are not really the point of this forum. It's simple, easy to navigate, things are easy to read. Perfect.
