    Talking Satellite Internet Discussion

OK Guys! I want a thorough discussion on this if you guys have time. I'm from Belize... We are currently connected with DSL connections 3 one meg lines, however our provider BTL sucks! Planning on moving over to Satellite...

Which satellite would you guys recommend?
    Prices?
    Speed?
    Pro's Con's?

I'd like to hear a discussion! Thanx guys! Need ur input for my research to see if thats the way to go

Unless anyone else in here is from Belize, I don't see how you can be helped. Maybe if you listed the satellite providers in your country (not the ISPs, but who they rent satellite bandwidth from). Anyone coming across these companies could have something to say...

In any case satellite pretty much sucks. Bandwidth is low as to not become prohibitively expensive and they suffer from inane latency. Your bad ISP is certainly better than an average satellite connection.

    EDIT:
I just remembered some ISPs offer satellite alternatives to customers outside their land line coverage. They install a small dish and you are good to go at the same prices as a land line. I should have known this because, well, that's what I have duh. If your issues are anything to do with constant connection drops or your modem switching to much lower speeds than that 3Mb line you may want to ask them if they have that alternative.

For a 3Mb connection you should probably have something like 30 to 40 db Line Attenuation and > 10db Signal to Noise Ratio. If your LA is higher or your SNR is lower, check with that and other ISPs if there's a satellite alternative. Otherwise you are out of luck. Until your phone company installs an interchange closer to your home there's nothing you can do. And acquiring a satellite connection through other means will almost certainly be very expensive. Your only other bet is leaving ADSL and moving to cable TV, if you are being served by it.

Well that's the first start prob, i'm not really sure about satellite providers for my country. I.E providers within Belize, besides not really looking for them ... What we'd most likely want is an an American or foriegn provider who does the service outside their territories for us ...

No problem! You are in good hands -- in fact, the service is probably easier to get than you think:

Make sure you have flash enabled and your speakers on for this one.

I apologize if there was any offence.

I'm sure Belize is a nice place, try to keep it that way.

    Ermm?

You see it doesnt matter to me what last words I use on the forum, i could use them from A to Z and get banned but I'd care less if C board wants to ban me because i'm pretty sure there are other forums where discussions are held more maturely. As for your second part Errrmmm? Yes u dimwit ...

What about VSATSYSTEMS I know for a fact they are not located in Belize yet they offer services to these areas and i quote from their site "VSAT Systems’ satellite footprint covers even the most isolated regions of North America, Central America and the Caribbean..."

Thanks to the help from other forums and I'm pretty sure VSAT ain't the only one offering these services ... Have a great day bumbing around your soulless life in your computer room, my motto as i deal with computers and my motivation is not to get as ssad as most computer ppl are ... maintain both a healthy social life yet do my work

    Cheers!

You see, that's the problem when you talk about something you know nohing about. If you did know, you wouldn't need to ask us here...

VSAT, like many other similar providers offer their services to dealers, Virtual Network Operators (VNOs) and Value-Added Resellers (VARs) only. They do not offer satellite communications to the consumer directly. So they still have to go through your ISPs, who either function as VNOs or VARs themselves, or rent bandwidth from these. No company can offer satellite communications directly to consumers in other countries, unless there is a special agreement with that country government. And no company the likes of VSAT offer direct services to consumers because that's not their business.

This is why I told you you could only be helped if there was someone here from Belize and who had used any of these providers.

This dimwit here knows better than you. And yet you, who was the one asking the question, pretend to know better than the ones answering it. So shut your trap. You are making a fool of yourself.

OP, really not the best place to be asking. Looking at your Speedtest it doesn't look like you have much options. I would find a forum Belize related or at least ISP dedicated.

    MK27, not funny at all.

    What do you mean?

The CIA is an independent US government agency that provides national security “intelligence” to key US leaders so they can make important, informed decisions. CIA employees gather intelligence (or information) in a variety of ways, not just by “spying” like you see in the movies or on TV (though we do some of that, too)!
    I'm gonna apply.

I don't mind making a fool out of myself "cuz i'm cool like that ..." you see the problem with many you arrogant programmers who spend up so much damn hours a day on forums "supposedly helping" is that you become useless dumps when someone tries to ask something nicely, fact of the matter is I don't care... I've already gotten a provider with the services needed without the help of C Board... so you "Shut your trap..."

I figured that much, C board was definitely not the place to ask this question. I only came here cuz there were some cool ppl back then when I used to Use C board like the guy Matt which went by master5001 and a few others...Belize can't compare to the US but surely we woun't be pushed down by idiots like MK...

    I'm gonna apply.
You should probably apply yea, you'll probably end up as the retard who cleans their as*es.

Cya all... no use of this forum!
