    Texas - Toronto. Sites to see?

    Hey guys. I will be driving from Houston to Toronto in 2 weeks, and was wondering if anybody could recommend some worth while sites to stop and see. I like outdoorsy things, and not really into museums, zoos, art galleries, or stuff like that. I would love to see the grand canyon or mount rushmore, but they are a bit out of the way. I was kinda thinking of something not too far off of a direct route.

    Thanks in advance!

    I've never done any sightseeing going that route, so I really couldn't tell you. But as a Houstonian myself, I can say there's not much to see on your way out of Texas. Normally, I would recommend stopping by New Orleans, but then again, I'm not sure what kind of shape it's in these days.
    Code:
    #include <cmath>
    #include <complex>
    bool euler_flip(bool value)
    {
        return std::pow
        (
            std::complex<float>(std::exp(1.0)),
            std::complex<float>(0, 1)
            * std::complex<float>(std::atan(1.0)
            *(1 << (value + 2)))
        ).real() < 0;
    }

    Heading out of Texas throught he Ozarks may be a good plan, I think.

    Not sure how much "off-track" you want to go, but I have good memories from smoky mountains which is possibly a bit too far east for a "straight line" from Houston to Toronto.

    There are some supposedly pretty places up around Vermont and around there too.

    Plenty of natural beauty around Kentucky/Ohio too.

    I think it would help if you give some idea of rough route - e.g. bigger towns you'd be close to along the route.

    Also, how long have you set aside for the sightseeing on the way?

    Once you get to Toronto, everything else will seem scenic and worthwhile by comparison. I hope you do not have to stay there?

    Here's a real tip if you like pretty: go to the east of Lake Ontario (so that you cross the border near Kingston) rather than going thru Niagara or Detroit.

    Ok, so I only spent a little more than a day in Toronto, and whilst some of that wasn't much to write home about, there were some quite nice motorcycle roads around the place - I can't tell you their name or where they were, as I was quite busy remembering to ride on the opposite side of the road, keep the rubber-side down, and follow the leader. But it certainly was quite pretty.

    Niagara falls was nice too - but wearing full leathers, boots and gloves and middle of the day in July was a tad hot, so we didn't stop for long.

    You're a brave man, Mats.

    Not half as brave as Brian who kindly lent me his motorbike! (Sure, it was under condition of "You break it, you mend it")

    Credits for the bike, but yes, if your idea of fun is driving around in a vehicle, T.O. is the place to do it! Canadians own more cars per capita than any other nation in the world. They like em big too. Lots and lots and lots of parking in Toronto. Really, it is a giant parking lot with some strip clubs and a big "death's head on a stick" in the middle. Endless expanses of non-descript concrete/glass and 6 lanes overhead everywhere. Very much an "industrial town" fuelled by the co-existence of it's "economic sector". I was born in the area...it is also one of the few parts of the country where anything resembling "nature" or "wilderness" is so far away that it might as well exist on another planet. In keeping with the theme, they do not even have any half decent parks. Sick, sick place.

    Since I hate nature, Toronto is perfect for me. If I was in Star Trek, I'd spend my whole life on a star ship or space station.
    If you like pigeons, there's plenty of those downtown.

    I could see some vaguely dystopian episodes set there in a series of underground malls leading to a massive railway yard.

    It just occurred to me that if you combine these two perspectives:

    Then Toronto will be the best of both worlds.

    except that it's in Canada, which bars it from holding the title of best of anything

    there are even better Canada impersonators than Canada
