So, I upgraded FF sometime last weekend, I reckon, after realizing all was quiet around Mozilla base of operations.

Been using it since and I suddenly remembered about the wonder bra... bar. Thing is it's pretty much like it always used to be. Only difference is that it now shows two lines, one for the page title and another for the address. Am I missing some functionality I'm not aware of? What was all the fuzz about the address bar?

It's the "Awesomebar", it is supposed to be a clever piece of AI which shows you the most relevant entries from the history.

It searches everything basically.

Once you start typing it seaches history and bookmarks via: link, title, tags. It shows the tags and if the page is bookmarked on your right. You single out what you want it to search but I forget how.

I really love it and use it all the time, never have to go through the history unless I only know what time I was browsing something.

And yes, over time the most common or frequent searches show up top, unless you clear your settings and it just starts over. I also suspect the "AI" is a counter of page visits.

Oh, yes. I'm seeing that now. Neat. And doesn't seem to interfere with my usual way of typing an address instead of a normal search string... I wonder why it was being criticized.

I've seen a lot of people criticize it, but then later get used to it and love it.

For some people it just takes some time to get used to it.

What I love most is the ability to bookmark stuff and don't clutter the bookmark menu.
Just give it some good keywords that you remember the site being about and search it! You'll find it in no time.

I guess they see all the content as clutter, but it's really usefull if you get rid of the directory structure of your bookmarks and go with either tagging only or just bare bookmarks.

One thing they improved over the last is that if you started typing and the autocomplete box showed up (more basic in the previous version) and your mouse was over it and you pressed enter, it would select where your mouse hovered and go to that site, which was annoying as hell if it was a base directory or something on the site. Now it just ignores mouse hovers as selections.

My only complaint is that sometimes it will bring some things to the top that definitely should not be at the top. For example, one time I visited Facebook, and I accidentally went to www.facebook.com/home.php instead of www.facebook.com, and for several days I simply could not get the "home.php" one off of the top.

Another thing is that it doesn't group tags like it should. If you have several bookmarks tagged under blogs, and type blogs, they will seemingly be scattered rather than isolated. I guess it's the wording of the tag and what you visited later, but it should have a grouping preference, to tags and bookmarks, but then the history would be neglected.

They seem to have balanced it well.

Press the star beside the "awesome bar" once to bookmark.
Twice to tag.
They'll show up in "unsorted bookmarks" but won't clutter your bookmark menu.

I mean you bookmark it, but instead of putting them in folders in the bookmark, you just tag them. You can also quick bookmark items by clicking the gold star next to the link in the bar itself.

A good extension is Ex Bookmark Properties
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7396
which lets you edit more bookmark properties like keywords within the bookmark toolbar itself.

Ah gotcha. Can see it happening now. Goes to some hidden folder only accessible through the bookmarks manager. Nice transition between bookmarking and tagging mindset. Hats off.

Also a cool thing is it searches multiple tags and title, address content Out of order.

So if you want to find a page titled "Welcome to the Classical Music Wiki" with tags music, wiki - you can find the contents by typing either "wiki class music" or "wiki music" via tags

The RC's actually lacked that function which made me sad for a bit.
