Tenchu 2 Remake - Camera angle?

For those who haven't played it, read this first: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenchu_2

We're thinking of re-making it in 2D, for fun and experience. The biggest problem we're having at the moment is a problem we didn't think we'd have: "camera angle".

Given the type of game Tenchu 2 is, which camera angle do you think would best suit a 2D version? Our first guess is either birds eye or orthographic.

Any other comments or guidance welcome, as always. We be stuck!!

Id go for side on, like street fighter 2, that is the old snes version before Capcom 3d'd it!

We talked about this for a while and decided against it on the grounds that it'd remove a lot of depth from the gameplay; it'd end up being a Shinobi remake.

Although, we could go into a side-on view during some swordplay or something. Worth thinking about.

Could you do an isometric, kinda thing. Or would that be considered 3d?
