    Using 3dsmax models with directx.

Hi! Just started thinking about game programming. I was wondering, are there any APIs that can import a *.max file as a model in directx? And if there isn't, what model formats does directx support?

AFAIK DirectX only supports .x files "out of the box". You'll have to write your own .max file parser or see if there's a 3rd party library.
Good class architecture is not like a Swiss Army Knife; it should be more like a well balanced throwing knife.

There's a library for the SDL that supports 3DS files: http://www.libsdl.org/libraries.php?...3ds&perpage=50

I know it's the SDL and you're not using that, but maybe it will help (the license is GPL so you can look at the source if you like).

3DS should have an export that supports .x files.

If not, MSDN has several <insert model format> to .X file converters for download.
