    3d gfx in 2d game

What tools would you need to create 3d that graphics that are to be later used in 2d games? Are there any of these avaliable for free?

// There is also a MILKSHAPE Free 3D modeller for low polygon model making.

    don't know URL??

//However, there is a Free Learning version of a major 3D modelling program

    -direct link-

This is the best as it will teach u the most about modelling, and the site has a ton of support and teaching articles.

Milk shape is not free, nor has it been.
its a 30 day free trial no limitations, $20 to register (once). Its a great deal for a great program.

oke, 3D Studio Max is a nice rendering program too,
a little expensive but worth its price

You could have a look at Gmax which is a free 3D modelling program, specifically made for game designers. It is designed and created by discreet, the guys behind 3D Studio max and shares much of the same interface. You can basically think of it as a stripped down free version of 3D studio max for game modelers.

Have a look - but it may not meet your needs as it does not incorporate a complex lighting model.

I wasn't looking for anything too fancy. Just something that would produce 3d graphics and allow me to save them as .bmp files.

I think both PovRay and Blender fit that bill. And if you want to pay for something, and you use Windows, I'd recommend either TrueSpace or 3D Studio Max.

In any case, you can always take a screenshot of whatever you've designed, and save that as a bitmap. Of course, most applications would allow you to render the scene to a bmp file.
