I've programmed quite a bit in OpenGL and only have done a little bit with Direct3D, though I have a lot of experience with DirectSound, DirectMusic, and DirectInput. I've never made anything commercially but I've done enough to have a pretty valid opinion.

i've programmed enough with Direct3D to form an opinion...you're right about cross platform programming, though. i've never programmed outside of windows.

here's a link to the game i'm currently working on:

    looks like half life.

    done any opengl?

    EDIT:
looks like your perspective is set to only 45 degrees or something, causing kinda a fish-eye effect

is that a compliment or an insult?

i have done some OpenGL, not nearly as much as Direct3D, though.

    you?

    >Might OpenGL and Direct3D be merged(DirectGL, maybe)?

this was the original plan, i think it was to be called 'Fahrenheit ' untill MS screwed SGI, and broke their agreement, and now only in fear of very serious legal action do they support OpenGL on Windows at all.

i've heard rumors MS was gonna do something else called Fahrenheit just using Direct-X, but they are just rumors.

i'd be surprised if anyone in this thread has done extensive programming with direct3d and opengl or done any game programming across multiple platforms.

programming knowledge is not 'really' relvant to the discussion, hell no programming knowledge is really required, just a knowledge of the two subjects, computer graphics and current and past developments in general.

i happen to have enough exp, and knowledge of the subject to voice a well thought opinion.

and heres a general disclaimer for the internet in general for those in a delusion.

"OPINIONS STATED ARE THOSE OF THE PURVEYOR."

well i disagree, but, it doesn't really matter, i still say most everything in this post is far too skeptical

i never insult people's work, i hope you continue your project and someday get famous

I'm doing opengl. Let me see I dont' know how to classify myself. I mean I've been reading through OpenGL game programming and the opengl superbible for about six months now. I'm working on a little project with a friend, actually very comparable to what your project looks like.

I guess I'm an advanced beginner, before intermediate. I dunno.

I should be working on it today but I'm kinda under the weather because my .md3 loading hasn't been working. I've even tried converting the models to simple formats with milkshape, but, alas, DOESN'T WORK

i guess you know that gametutorials.com has a great OpenGL tutorial on md3 loading/rendering?

    hope you get it working...
