cursor movement and appearance

Help.....))))) I want to write a game but the very first problem is couldn't control the cursor movement on the dos prompt after you run the program. I'm using C and I want to control the cursor movement using the regular arrow keys as normal.
Also would it be possible to change the appearance of the cursor from _ \ | / _ continuously so that it appears as if it is spinning....????
Any kind of help is really appreciated!!
