    Game Programming Board improvements

I think we should try to develop the game board into more, make it a better place to hang out. Like have some threads teaching stuff, instead of every thread being a exact copy of something posted less than a month ago. And instead of people complaining about all these repetitive questions they could write some interesting stuff and just post it, not every post needs to be a question. TechWins 'Game Design Topic', I think that was a good step, we need more stuff like that.

Anyone have any ideas, like maybe someone posting some polls, other than 'Fav. compiler', 'Fav lib', 'Fav game type'. Something more origional.

    I couldn't agree more!

Simply having a few threads sticked could do it. We could have basic information on certain topics stickied to the top. As more input was given the info could evolve and develop. I tried doing something similar a while back with my 'Important Allegro Information' thread. but to no avail not many paid much attention to it and since then we have 95,000 thread about Allegro info that was in the thread.

That's what I was trying to accomplish; actually getting some game programming discussion going isntead of always answering the same ol' questions. I, also, think that Nutshell asking what game he should make his good. We need more threads that don't always relate to a specific question but to a general topic, such as my thread about AI. Come on people post some info*** about that really cool game you've been working; you know you want to. Talk about a game design question you have.

There could be polls about what character names should be in your game, what type of weapons should be in the game, what people like most about certain genres, etc... There is so much to talk about it's unbelievable.

*** = this doesn't mean that you should post ten different demos in a span of three days and have each demo being posted in one thread. Show off one demo that you can actually be proud, and then try to release one completed version of your game.

Maybe if we wrote a nice FAQ and posted it one of the mods would 'sticky' it. The FAQ could have a general concepts section, which explains blitting, double buffering, sprites, what a lib is and stuff liek that. Then there could be specific areas for Allegro, OpenGL, SDL. We could get people on this board to write the areas they are familiar with, or at least help us with them. The only thing I know about is Allegro.

Most definately, and it would be posted on the main site... Keep throwing out ideas and the mods and I will discuss, and of course see what the webmaster thinks, but grass roots is always best .

    you've got the mod's attention.

Great suggestion, JoshG. I haven't posted here in a while because things seem to have gone into a bit of a slump, as you mentioned.

I've got a few DirectX tutorials already written and I'm working on some more. I also have a few OpenGL and GDI tut's that I've been wanting to write but just didn't have time yet. If anyone's interested I can start working on them. Also, I've got some C/C++ tutorials written on topics specific to game development, but not dealing with a particular API (things like resource file management, shared resource memory data managers, custom database managers, etc.)

If you are wrote some DirectX tutorials that would be awsome to link to from the FAQ, maybe you could even help out with the DirectX section?

I could definitely write out some tutorials for SDL if you need some, since I am very heavily into SDL right now.

I also think it would be nice to have some 13h stuff in this "Game FAQ" for all those DOS game proggies

I could do that too. I am pretty fluent with 13h.
