Hi,
Are you aware that authors write books in order to sell them?
On strictly moral grounds, do you think it is fair that after someone writes a book and offers it for sale, and after they sell 1 copy, someone should be able to post the book online for free download?
Regardless of your moral stand on the issue, people in western countries believe doing so is unfair, and therefore they have enacted copyright laws to protect authors from being harmed by people who steal their works. If someone posts a book online and it causes sales of the book to fall by even 1 copy, then the author has been harmed and should be compensated by the thief.
I hear people claim that downloading songs for free online is legal because they aren't reselling the songs for a profit--they are only downloading the songs for personal use. Wrong. Apparently, those people believe it is legal for 1 person to go buy a song when it is first released and then post it online for everyone else to download for free. However, when someone makes a song available online for free, they are harming sales of that song, and therefore they are harming the artist.
