    Smile MS Visual C++ Express

    Hey, all!
    Is Microsoft Visual C++ Express a good compiler to start on? I am new in C++ and consider myself almost new in this whole programming thing. I did my last program 10 years ago, in C and Turbo Pascal.
    Ooops, while I'm at it, does any of you guys still use Pascal? I enjoyed using that program...
    Thanks and best regards..

    The compiler that comes with Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Express is reasonably good in terms of standards compliance, and I think that it should be fine to start with.
    C + C++ Compiler: MinGW port of GCC
    Version Control System: Bazaar

    Just make sure you are creating an empty Win32 console application. You do not want CLR, manged C++, C++/CLI, C++ .NET, etc. You want plain, standard C++ which you get by creating an emtpy Win32 Console Application project.

    As long you do that, VC++ Express is a great tool.

    Thanks for your info but I'm not sure I can follow. What is a Win32 Console Application project and how do I exactly create it?

    In VC++ 2005, you would do something like

    New -> Project -> Win32 -> Win32 Console Project

    ╔╗╔╦══╦╗╔╦══╦╗
    ║╚╝║╔╗║╚╝║╔╗║║
    ║╔╗║╠╣║╔╗║╠╣╠╣
    ╚╝╚╩╝╚╩╝╚╩╝╚╩╝
