    _putenv

Is there a windows setting/registry entry that i can modify that will speed up the putenv function.
Don't ask why but I have to set 502 environment variables. On some PC's/OS's it is very quick on others it takes about 10-12 seconds. Most of the time the OS is win xp sp 2 with about the same processor speed and memory. i cant seem to find the magic setting/option.

Can't you just put all of those in an INI file of some sort and then have your program read through that file and take the appropriate actions?

Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods."

Unfortunately it is beyond my control...

they are have to be in a file (text file currently) so that more vairables can be added AND other called modules have access to them via environment variables.
I would love to change it up to work totally different, but mgt says that is the way it will work. One of those brilliant ideas from long ago when it was only about 20 variables that has grown to over 500 and is still likely to grow more.
