    C++ Documentation Project (wiki, like php.net)

    C++ Web Documentation project (wiki)

    I've been thinking lately that the C++ language needs a site that's known by the community to keep standards compliant up-to-date documentation for the C++ language. Since it would be impossible for any individual to collect all this information, and quite difficult for a group of moderate numbers.. I figured the project should start with a team of moderators supervising a wiki. I haven't met one C++ programmer who hasn't dreamed of a good documentation on the web for this language, and i think this would be a great start. As a model, i believe www.php.net offers a basis for ideas.

    I was wondering if there is anybody here who would like to plan, and execute this effort?

    I'm up for any comments/suggestions/anything...

    The meeting will be held on IRC on September 29th, at 8:00PM EST. (irc.freenode.net -- #cppwebdoc)

    I could have sworn that this was covered in the rules.

    You might get more discussion by posting on the General Discussions board.
    If I did your homework for you, then you might pass your class without learning how to write a program like this. Then you might graduate and get your degree without learning how to write a program like this. You might become a professional programmer without knowing how to write a program like this. Someday you might work on a project with me without knowing how to write a program like this. Then I would have to do you serious bodily harm. - Jack Klein

    If you really want the best and brightest C++ minds helping out, comp.lang.c++ (and specifically comp.lang.c++.moderated) is the place to go. Also, the C++ FAQ Lite by Marshall Cline are IMO the best FAQs for good C++ advice, so getting either of those resources to go along with or help out the cause would lend extra credence.

    I think a wiki would be a great way to get good C++ documentation and reference information combined into a single place. Most people shrug off the need for such a reference, or don't have the time to create and maintain such a site. A wiki with the right people helping out would avoid such issues by having those who want to help do so without too much of a time/effort commitment. Good luck.

    I am not soliciting anything, this is a volunteer non-profit project for the C++ community...

    Thanks for the tip, Daved, i'll check those places out.
