Alright at school with there version of VC 4.0 I can compile the winamp SDK and what I have noticed at school it compiles it as a dll and at home it tries to make it an .exe why does it do this?

The project settings only need to be altered. That's it. If I were you I would make a dll that is an empty project and add the source files.
Dang, your school has VC++? Man my school sucks. Just this year we FINALLY got a internet (T1). We go crazy because there is a 30 games in one kind of program on one of the computers. Geez, my school sucks.
