Exclamation Looking for LA area programmers to make a demo for an RPG!!

Hello, my name is Al Gonzalez.

I am a fledgling game designer with no knowledge of how to program. Me and a friend have been working on a new RPG in paper and pencil for about two years now. I do the artwork and graphic design, and he does music.

The concepts and look of the game have already been ironed out. Even the battle system has been worked out in paper and pencil.

We would perfer students who are talented in programming and can utilize Direct X and polygonal graphics, who are willing to work for free, and want a very nice project for thier portfolio.

Credit will be given where credit is due, and if we submit the demo to a company and they like it, we will try to bring as many of the people who worked on the demo as we can with us to start a game company (possibly).

If you are interested, please e-mail
    [email protected]
    about the project.

    Thank you for your time.

:sigh: What's to be the policy with these?

Note to author: Good luck, but you're gonna want programming experience to help run a team of programmers, if not just to understand about how programming works and the amount of time it takes to write a program this size. It's nice that you all know what you want to do. That's the first step. Programming is a very, very, large jump.

I'm still just getting started in the world of programming. From what I know so far it takes alot of work to really excel in programming. For what your asking, I highly doubt you will find anyone to program for free. I do hope you find someone so you didn't just waste two years of your life. Why don't you try and take the idea and artwork to a game dev and see if they will "buy" your idea for a game. You should probably leave the programming upto them.

I might be looking for something like this in the not too distant future but I have another year of College to deal with. I would not be willing to work for free but on the other hand I'll be able to work with the best technology and see a project like this through. Wouldn't it be nice to develop a game for the XBOX or else PSII? Those are better game environments than the PC, but than again you have to start somewhere. I caught part of a documentary on game programming on TV. It featured programmers from Lucas Arts as well as programmers that did Turok 2 for N64, I forget this companies name. Looked like a lot of fun. They had several departments operating, there were coders, artists (and architect even), sound department, and game testers. They said that one of those games cost between 1 - 2 million dollars to make. I would start by drawing up a business plan, doing some industry research and maybe getting a loan from the bank. With enough resources it is possible but I'd think that you would have to take if very seriously, either hit or miss.
    I compile code with:
    Visual Studio.NET beta2

When I invest half a million dollars of my money I want to turn a profit. I wouldn't be too interested in anything else.

Yeah, as long as the games don't require anything more complex than repeatedly smashing a button.

Guys, I suppose you don't see the mechanics...
Anyone can think up a pen and paper rpg.
If someone sees the demo, and thinks it's good, then
you better pray the coders are going to mention *you*.

The game company will be out for the coders. You can send
sketches as an artist, and working concepts as a designer.
If you show them the demo, it's for the coders.

Don't expect someone to do work you can't even appreciate.
Don't expect someone to feel honored to have your concept.

    /*edited to add: */

It takes 1 designer and 10 programmers to make
that demo. If you haven't some kind of special game
design education, anyone programmer can replace
the designer. You can't even begin to replace a programmer.

She was so Blonde, she spent 20 minutes looking at the orange juice can because it said "Concentrate."

When in doubt, read the FAQ.
    Then ask a smart question.

    Thumbs down

Just like everyone else said, you've gotta have SOME programming knowlege at least so you know that what you're trying to accoplish is POSSIBLE. (btw, i'm not saying I am a master programmer or anything, its just common sense). And why would a programmer work for free while they know that you are going to try to sell the game/make money out of the game??

I think that the person who is going to be able to manage, direct, and control the making of a game, has to have the financing needed in order to initiate the project and he also has to acquire the people for the job and have them under contract.
