How to do it in C++
I'm totally new to C/C++. My main language is VB but I want to learn some more. So, can any of you, guys, point me in the right direction to start . I've dowloaded some tutorials and code for C++, but I'm TOTALY CONFUSED even when I look at the prog. environment of the C++ (all those files,...). It is SO different of VB!.
I'd appreciate any suggetion (how and whitch file should I open to view/edit project, how to run it, distribute it, etc...)
The best way to start would be to buy a book about C/C++.
My advise would be to use the tutorial on the home page of this site or log onto one of the sites that have the full text version of J. Liberty's book, Teach Yourself C++ in 21 days ( or get a copy of a textbook to have at your beck and call). Try not to worry about things like environment, files, etc. when trying to start learning the language. Some of the compilers/IDE may be more user friendly when starting out of the box, but to help you we would need to know what compiler you are using or plan to use.
I'm using Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 5, so I believe the compiler would be MSVC++ (I guess!!).
And yes, I've looked the tut. but it just doesn make any sence to me (I'm a Visual Basic programmer!).
Can you post a link to the site with that book, please? (Where I live [Slovenia], there aren't many good books aroud to buy [at least not for C++] !).
Another online textbook is B. Eckels--Thinking in C++. However, I felt it was not a better second level text than an introductory text.
I use Borland Compilers so I can't help you "set up the compiler" to write your first program. If that is a problem for you then someone else can probably help out.
