correct, you use C++ to program DirectX, just like OpenGL.
The API is completely different however.
I recommend you check out www.drunkenhyena.com and www.andypike.com. Very handy sites.
DrunkenHyena's tutorials mirror OpenGL tutorials on NeHe.com so for someone like yourself, you may find it even more handy
