I was just recently introduced to programming via a Visual Basic class at school. I have since been attempting to learn C++. I am in the middle of reading SAMS Teach Yourself C++ in 24 Hours. I was just wondering where I should go from there. Would reading SAMS Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days provide any new information? What other books are good for beginning to intermediate C++ programmers? Thanx.
This site has a good deal of good tutorials. I would say check online, many places are filled with tutorials.
Dont touch the sams book, its crud. Read for starters accelerated c++ by koenig and moo. Also go to bruce eckels site and download his e-book thinking in c++.
When you have worked through those then consider anything by scott meyers, anything by herb sutter and get hold of nicolai josuttis standard library a tutorial and reference.
That should keep you going for a year or two!

My first C++ book was called "C++ The Complete Reference" by Herbert Schildt. Pleasure to read and contains a lot of very useful information. Not really a beginners book, but I found it easy enough to read with my knowledge of "normal" C.

Just wondering, I downloaded the Dev Bloodshed C++ Compiler, will that be suffecient for doing most C++ programming?
Thats a fair IDE and a fair free compiler.That will do you just fine to learn on.

Never read the "24 hours" book, but I did read the 21 days book...I thought it was pretty good, but I'm not sure how much it covers compared to 24 hours...And Dev C++ is great IMO
