a better way to draw a screen...

i have a console application that models the game of life, and it has over 400 characters in the screen, consisting of spaces, asterisks, and lines (|,-,+)... It redraws every half second... I was wondering if there was a better way to draw it...

a little background info: it's a 2-D array (string) that i'm reading from and simply couting everything... i want to stay simple and with ASCII chars...

probably not much of a better way, is there...

Not unless you start using a graphics library.
The information given in this message is known to work on FreeBSD 4.8 STABLE.
*The above statement is false if I was too lazy to test it.*

Allegro, TK, OpenGL, DirectX...basically anything that lets you work with pixels instead of characters. From what I've heard, Allegro is the easiest to start with, but TK is cake too.
