...no just for searching through textfiles...I have a piece of code in java off of a book CD but I am better with C++ ( I think)....any ideas??...

I would suggest using grep.
If you are looking to write your own code, we'll need a more specific set of requirements.

...thank you....the assignment requires that we run stats on the text files and a bunch of other stuff... but does not require that we write our own code for the searching...not so sure if I should go ahead and do so anyway...just running out of time at this point...I will look around some more...again thank you so....
