Smile Thinking about buying this book, HELP...

and could do with some input before parting with £50.00.

    The book is:
C++ How to program - by Deitel & Deitel (fourth edition)

I'm new to C++ programming and could do with a good reference book to go together with the distance learning course I'm doing.

Anybody have any ideas if this is worth the money?? Really appreciate any help.

    Regards
    N

I have it, its very good. A little tough to start with, but it really covers a lot of subject matter and is invaluable when you move on to stuff like class, inheritance and polymorphism

Go here for reviews on books about programming. In particular, this doesn't seem to indicate that the book in question is a very good one, although the review is for the third edition and not the fourth. Maybe the fourth edition is better.

Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods."

It does not seem like he is reviewing the right book.
There are almost no 1 based loops in that book?
Also the book seems pretty platform independant through
they adjusted some of the code to work on msvc 6.

I have the third edition, and it's great, actually it's the text book for C++ we use in the university.

I recommend this book, it's not very easy to start with, but it's a great refrence, and it covers many aspects in C++.
    none...

I havent read it myself, but my university used to use it when it was in its first edition. Then they switched to Computer Concepts with C++ Essentials that really sucked imo but thankefully I had already learned C++ before college began. But anyways, everyone who I know who read the book you mention seemed to like it so maybe you should just search for an online version before commiting to buying it.

If you are starting c++ from scratch then dont buy the deitel book prefer instead Accellerated c++.
Free the weed!! Class B to class C is not good enough!!
