I don't know anything about that tutorial but many of us, including myself use VC++6.

I'd say probably half of the people here use it. I recommend it because it's a solid IDE and there are a lot of great tools to use with it.

    Thumbs up top app

Visual c++ is better than using a cheaper compiler such as Borland etc

The IDE is comfortable and the source code for the libraries is available, this is a good thing. Most of the features I don't use, especially the tutorials. I really don't trust any tutorial from a company that uses void main.

MSVC++ is exellent. Its even better when you dont pay for it and 72mb isn't that much to download...hang on, i've said too much

I bought a copy of Visual C++ 6 Pro like two years ago from school for $99, I just recently bought Visual Stuio .NET for $109 from school and have them both installed, use .NET for writing code and I use the profiler in 6 to measure performance of code.

    Borland?

Are you guys throwing Borland C++Builder to the winds, or is it just that you don't know of its existence?

I use C++Builder 6 Enterprise edition, and IMHO, its far better than MS-Visual C++! The one time I tried out VC++, it felt rather clumsy to me.
    I code.
    I think.
    Ergo, I think in code.

IDE is all a matter of comfort level. Neither is better. Your own opinion is the only one that matters. There are many who swear by emacs as a great IDE. I think they're nuts but that's another issue all together.

But.. a serious argument can be made that the microsoft compiler is not as standard compliant. Still, I like the thing.
