    lol

    You can't learn everything in C++.

    You could learn how to make pac man, pong, the next quake, defrag, the next virus scanner / word proccessing program....you can't learn everything.

    Sorry to rip your words off Shadow.......

    >>You can't learn everything in C++.

    Amen! I have been studying for almost 3 years and haven't even started to get my feat wet! It takes a while to get a good grasp on everything that you "have learned". But as far as learning everything.........just think of how many people it took to make windows. Thousands!

    May take a while, but it can be done!

    One more recomendation from me:
    Find a friend/co-worker that has an intrest in programming and exchange ideas/support in programming. This has been a big help in my learning.

    no prob ski

    No problem ski6ski

    I would also like to expand on what you said.
    It takes a PRO team of sometimes 10-20 people, 2 or 3 years to make a high quality game ( now a days anything that aint pac man ). Look at the first 2 most popular releases of Windows, the ones with the easiest names. Windows 95 and Windows 98. 3 years apart. Windows 98 is based heavily on 95 so without 95, 98 wouldn't be possible. So essentially if your going to count how long it took to make windows 98 you might as well count the time for windows 95.

    When DooM was released they started ( in a few reviews Tom Hall or John Carmack seemed disgusted with the technology due to the discovery of quake's tech... ) working on quake. Doom2, Heretic, Hexen and so forth came out before Quake.

    I'm working on a private personal program that's up to 2,000 lines of code, before it's done it'll more then likely be a few thousand lines. I've been working on it "casually" for a couple weeks. It takes TEAMS of professional programmers ( unbelievable expierence ).....YEARS to make anything worth marketing.
    The world is waiting. I must leave you now.

    Well, if you're a knowledgable programmer, you can specialize in a niche area and develop programs quicker. The guy who teaches C++ at the local college has a small (2-4 person) firm that develops medical programs that do things like control and monitor IV drips in diabetes patients. He's been programming for years, and it's probably a small target market, but it's there and they pay. Think something besides writing OS's and the next Myst. Lots of possibilities if you think outside the IT box.
