Yes I know, sadly it does look much like DoM. However, I liked that game very much and it inspired my graphics. Remember, though, looks can be decieving. My game is NOTHING like DoM, nothing at all. COMPLETLEY different story. Again, I loved DoM, without it I wouldn't have even had graphics. And here's (yet another) screenshot. I've changed the water. Do you prefer this new look or the old one?

harry_p I have to say that i am pretty damn impressed by what
you are doing here and as a novice of c++ its good to see
what can be achieved in console mode.

Cant wait to see the finished version!

To frenchfy: The new water or the old water? The new water is this: #define water (char)176
The old water was just a '~'.

To Gweech - I've been programming going on 3 years now! Is that still considered novice? I thought it was intermediate. Because with all the tutorials and stuff I can easily do most of the stuff under Intermediate, so I just assumed that's where I was at. I've read and re-readx100 Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days, and I've read and re-readx50 a book on MSVC++ 6, not to mention online tutorials and souce code.

Thanks for all the comments, they've been invaluable in creating the game. I'm working on the battle system (still, it's taking forever), and I should be done with that tonight or tomorrow. I'll release a demo of the game this Friday, assuming I've got all I want done by that time completed. I'm going on vacation then for about 2 weeks, so I won't have anytime to continue the game.
And the demo is just that: a demo. I will still finish the game, but I'm eager to get what I've got out to get some more feedback before I get too far with it.

Lol OH!!! I see now. Please excuse me, I happen to be very slow at times lol. Or perhaps it's just that I only got 1 HOUR OF SLEEP because I was up till 8 AM working on MoA, and then I slept until 9:30.

Really though, if you're impressed by MoA then you need to see the other console RPGs that people have made. I don't remember any links offhand, but I know red_baron's "Dungeon of Moria" is an excellent one, as well as Shazow's "Dark Legend of Shazow". If you search under "Dungeon of Moria", and click on the "Dungeon of Moria" thread and look through all those posts you'll find both games. They're excellent and it's those games that got me started. Another great game, though it has no graphics, is Kyoto Oshiro's (spelling???) game. I don't remember what it's called though...

Well "steal" is a very negative way to put it. I didn't "steal" anything. I looked at the DoM code and decided to use the same characters as output. And I'd decided to use the smiley face long before I even began making the game or knew about DoM. I didn't "steal" the code. And in case you didn't notice, there ARE other games that have the same characters, and they didn't all "steal" the code, either. You chose a bad word to describe it. However, as the whole point of this is to get feedback for improvement, would you prefer that I change the graphics back to how they did look? I'll ask everyone. That's the new feedback I want now. How many think I should change it back? Or keep it?

It's imperative to keep the new graphics!

You know what? I don't care anymore the graphics are staying the way they are, and if you have a problem with them, well, then I'm sorry. I could help it, but I'm not going to.
