From reading this board enough i Recently purchased Charles Petzold's Programming Windows 5th edition. It seems to be recommended by a lot of people here. It cost 60 us dollars but i obtained it off of ebay for only 18 and that's including shipping. I just finished the third chapter and so far it seems to be a great book.

does that have anything with VC++ in it?
It's best done with VC++6 or VS.net C++7. Use the windows.h library file.
NO visual basic, It's all compiled(in the book) on Visual c++ 6.0 and is written in c. A lot of it is over my head but I just keep going on till the next chapter or so and then go back, and it makes a lot more sense.
