    Next step...

I'm almost finished with Sam's Teach Yourself C++, I've actually enjoyed the book. It was pretty easy to follow and get through, and I feel I adequately understand the concepts it presented.

I was planning on getting Effective C++ next, but I didn't notice it on the recommended book listings here. Does anyone have any experience with it? Would it make a good second book, or is it a bit too basic/advanced for someone coming out of Sam's?

Effective C++ would be a good third book, in my opinion. A better second book would be The C++ Programming Language or volume 2 of Thinking in C++.
My best code is written with the delete key.

Talking about Thinking in C++,(I think) it is very much worth reading the first book too, even you're familiar with the concepts discussed. It is like the famous C++ faq in an organized shell.
