    non-C++, non-coding question!

    Hi,
    I have a stupid problem:
    How do I get rid of (uninstall) programs that don't give me an uninstall option? Deleting the directory does remove the files and everything, but how do I remove the start-up menu entry?

    This should be on the general board, but I'll try to help anyway. Right click on the start button and there should be an edit start menu option or explore option. Delete it from there.

    Thanks for replying, and sorry that I posted this here..
    But the programs I'm trying to remove aren't listed there (I tried that before).. any other way you might know that works?..

    Whenever you want to uninstall a program do not remove it's directories in Windows.

    Goto: START->SETTINGS...->CONTROL PANEL:

    once in control panel - click on Add/Remove Programs Icon and find the program in the list that you want removed, highlight it, and click the Install/Uninstall btn. If you have removed the directories for the program windows will complain and you will be unable to uninstall via this route.

    Start-up??? I was unsure whether you wanted to completly remove a program or just prevent the program from starting up when your computer does?

    If you just want to prevent the program from starting up when windows does there is a program in the following windows that you can use:

    Win98/WinME/WinXP all have a program called msconfig, it can be run by going to START->RUN...: and typing in 'msconfig' in the run command. This program allows you to check and uncheck programs and drivers that are loaded when windows starts up. You can dramatically increase the speed of which windows will boot up by unchecking alot of the programs and drivers that are loaded at startup.

    **Win2k or Win95 and probably WinNT do not have this program**

    I know I can't get rid of the program's start menu shortcut if I've already deleted its entire directory (that's why I'm trying to find a way to uninstall it first).. And I did try to uninstall it using that windows add/remove programs thing, but my problem's that the program I want to uninstall isn't listed there.. And it doesn't say anything about uninstalling the damn thing in its readme file..
    By the way by start-up menu I just meant the start menu..

    you can get rid of a start menu shortcut really easily.... go to win explorer (or another file management system) go to the windows folder, and then the start menu folder. then delete the shortcuts you want to. (go to the programs folder to get to others and such...)

    you know your answer makes me wonder if you've actually read any of the replies.. my problem, once again, is that this thing isn't listed as part of the start menu anywhere!..

    Ooooooh my head hurts! You want to get rid of its start menu entry, but it isn't listed on the start menu???

    Does anyone else have a problem with this, or am I just having a bad day??

    Linette, perhaps start from the beginning again, and explain your problem.
