    I'm new to all this

    Hello,

I am totally new to all this programming malarkey. I am half way through an engineering doctorate and need to write an application to collect data.

I have no idea whether it will be possible for me to learn the skills to do this in a short amount of time or whether i should try and outsource the work.

As far as i can gather, C++ seems to be the way forward.

    what i need is:

A survey pop up app that repeats every hour
Respondants select one option from a list (preferably by clicking)
The app closes and data is sent to a shared file where i can collect.

I need to be able to tailor the list of options periodically and ideally, also tailor to suit different groups of respondants. (I want to know how people are spending there time/ which projects they are working on).

Is it crazy to try and learn to do this myself or should i outsource it?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Abi

I think you'd be better off with php/mysql for this, but either way, I can't see you learning what you need in a short amount of time. How short is "short"?

If you're new to programming, then I would suggest outsourcing it.

Whenever I see someone who is gonna learn programming just to make a game/specific application, I say he will fail.

Haha, thats optimism for you! The glass is half empty i guess!

    Sadly its probably true though...!
